Sophia on the phone (video)
this one is for the grandparents. Sophia is talking to our old helper.
She says: 'I also really miss you'....'yes'....'he is really fat'
Bella's ABCs (video)
she leaves out some of them, but this is pretty funny (at least to us and maybe the grandparents!)

Children's day
June 1, 2011
Last week Sophia's teachers reminded me that Children's day was coming up and that I needed to bring a toy as a gift for another child. I went out and bought a fun little toy car. They said, oh no, not a new toy, one from home, an old one. I just assumed when they said gift they meant new. This was all for the huge shindig going on at the big square in our town in the evening involving kindergarten age kids.
The plan was for us all to pile in the car. Yes, our friend who returned to the States for a few months is letting us borrow her car!!! We use it a few times a week, if that. But this was a perfect outing for a car (and recently Taxis are all on strike here). The only problem was that it started raining. Hard. It is the rainy season, the monsoons can come on fast and end just as fast. But there was just no way we were all going to go out in so much rain. In the end David and Sophia and J and Caleb went together to the celebration.

She was so ready to go....

Ready for the weather. Bella threw a good fit of tears when we decided she and Tobin would not be going and would stay home with mommy.

See....the weather cleared up. This is what is great about the rains, they come and cool things off, and then go their merry way (most of the time, but it has been known to rain for days on end).
David says the place was CRAZY. Tons of kids, tons of games, so much fun...

Sophia received stickers for winning games and then she got to turn them in and choose a prize, which were the (used) toys all the children had donated.

after all her winnings, she came home with a toy hairdryer. Fun. Also given to every child was a little cake and some milk. Both of which she did not like.

The scene of the action. I was sorry I missed it, but thankful for David's iphone, which took all these pictures. (see the mountains in the background? I love this town!)

with one of her teachers: Ma Laoshi.
