Tobin was due for his shots, so we took him to the same clinic and the same lady patiently helped us with our 'brought in' immunizations. He cried a little, then was fine. This time they let us pay 2 yuan, less than fifty cents.

Shots for Tobin

Thanksgiving
We are so thankful to be able to go visit some of our closest friends on the other side of the country for Thanksgiving. It will take us 3 airplanes and all day, and we will not leave China. But we are SO excited. We also will meet up with a team from TCC and get to hug the necks of dear friends from back home, including Travis! We sure will miss Julie and the youngin's but we will take what we can get!
To gear up for Thanksgiving, this week the girls and I started in on a few very small projects/crafts. We try to practice thanksgiving a lot, naming things we are thankful for, discovering and remembering ways God has answered our prayers, etc. But this week we put it more in writing. David started the week by introducing the girls to Squanto and his story. They are still reading that together.
Our crafts started with a paper quilt. I got the idea from HERE.

I basically followed the instruction. I did not have canvas, but I used a thin foam board that I had and was not using. I also had scrapbooking scrap sheets, I cut out the rest and tried to find fall colors. The girls had so much fun trying to draw pictures of what they were thankful for. Daddy and Mommy both participated as well.
Everyone did three. Sophia's first picture was a picture of Big Caleb, Little Caleb, and herself. She really is thankful for those guys. She also drew a picture of some mountains and said she was thankful for Daddy. Her third was 'Jesus' and she drew a cross.
Bella mainly scribbled, but she said: 'Daddy', 'Jesus', and "Sophia".

The next thing we did was make a Thanksgiving Tree. We had gone to a park over the weekend and I collected some dried roots from trees that had just been planted, they looked like sticks and were bendable. I then cut out a bunch of leaves and again had the girls draw pictures and name some more things to Thank God for. Then we hung our leaves on the tree. We spent quite a bit of time on this and they loved participating. It reminds me that I really need to make a better effort at doing more crafts with them every week.

Our journey to the NE begins tomorrow!

Rooftop sunset picnic
11.12.2011
As promised we bought some marshmallows (an all over town search for the right ones, meaning not lemon, strawberry or other flavors), made PB & J sandwiches, cut up some carrots, got our drinks together and headed to the roof. It took a few trips of taking stools, food, the stroller, etc. up the ladder to the top. Then we had to do the kid hand-off. Let's let the pics speak...

The hole/cover leading to the roof. Those are the top rungs of the 'ladder'. No stairs.

Even Sophia needed to be handed through, she is a good climber, but these rungs are a little far apart and took some stretching. We didn't want to take chances.

The view before dusk settled in.

more views

These new buildings are in the center of the city. They are the tallest buildings in town.
Supposedly a KFC is coming below them.

This girl and her hair.

the rooftop is no place for small children, with water pipes, huge solar panels, barrels of water, and most importantly electrical wires encompassing us, it is a danger zone. But we did it anyway, the girls listened well, we had a great time!

dinner first, dessert after.

Building going on all around us.

David put our fire in a metal bowl, and the roasting began. Bella was not willing to try a roasted marshmallow, but she ate some plain ones. All the rest of us had our fair share. yum!

Tobin watched contently and even saw an airplane come in...

Roasting the last round as the fire dies down.

This is a pagoda with a Buddhist temple in it.

getting darker...

Daddy teaches them to make sure the fire is out!

And Tobin smiles. Always. Sweet boy.
An awesome evening of relaxed fun and bellies full of sweet burnt marshmallows!

Ending in Beauty
11.11.2011
Friday. The end of the aforementioned crazy week (the following was every bit just as harried, details later). Sicknesses settled down. Kids crazy fun. The week-end.

sophia always finding new ways to wear her clothes.

Tobin always finding new ways to do just about anything. He may look a little stuck and frustrated in this pic, but let's go closer:

He is starting to chew on the wood bench. Hmm...let's move him now. This bench was a second hand store purchase, sure to be filled with lead paint, or who knows...
And yes, the week ended in beauty. Actually every day did we just didn't see it, did we? Nope. Every night God displays his splendor like this, and we are so inside ourselves, our sicknesses, our desires, our worries, we forget to even look out the window and partake and thank. By Friday, we did just that (to our shame it took us that long, some weeks are just like that).

we decided right then and there that the following night we would picnic on the roof and roast marshmallows! Thanking God for all the big and small things he does and gives.

Bella's new digs
11.5.2011 (oops just posted these out of order)
We are going on a trip for Thanksgiving. To a cold place. With warm friends, and even friends from America are coming to, including our own Bro Travo. I will post more about that later. This trip has been harder to prepare for because we have to pack layers, and I actually had to go shopping for clothes and shoes! We were all due, really, I had not bought 'winter' shoes in years.
And Bella, who gets all the hand-me-downs (I feel your pain girl, I was girl #2 also, but the baby, so some say I was spoiled in other ways), she needed a better jacket and boots. I hate buying kids shoes that will be worn only one season, but these were on the cheap! The jacket was just two cute, much needed and will last her at least one more winter if not more! Check out Bella bear in her new digs:

this included for fun (or scare), and to embarrass her later in life!
