Ogunquit, Maine, day 4

Another day, another diner. Cafe Amore was on the recommended list. It had a 20 minute wait, and the food was good. But Cove Cafe was better. We still enjoyed the atmosphere though and great coffee.

on our walk to the cafe.

'Knotical' Barometer. My favorite: 'rope gone: hurricane'

The library. VERY Old and built in memory of a loving husband. Quaint, have I said that before?

inside they had a replica of the library itself. Very interesting. It was worth the five minutes to see it (the library itself that is)

Another recommended outing was hiking Mt. Agamaticus. I thought we just had to do this because when would we ever get the chance to hike without children again? We drove to the starting point (though you can drive to the top). And chose our trail. We kept waiting for it to seem mountainous and it never did. This was the only disappointing thing that we did. Maybe it is because we live in a valley surround by giant Mountains in Asia, maybe because we are also used to blue ridge parkway beauty of a skyline, not sure. But this was not a real mountain to us, sorry locals. Go to Maine for the coastal beauty and laid back lifestyle (though we heard other mountains in Maine were completely worth it we did not have time).

We took the foot bridge to lunch again and a sailboat was going out.

David decided he had to eat a real whole lobster while in Maine. This was his first time doing so, and I have to say, he did amazing. It helped that in our cabin there was a platter that gave step by step instructions. He read this before we left to go get the lobster.

Big red

This was meat he had just pulled out of the claw. what a good chunk. I could not help him at all, I did not even want any of the juices to get on me, who knows what would make me sick. So I cheered him on and he ate almost all of it. He said the taste was okay but probably not his favorite seafood, but then, anything taste good dipped in butter right?

After we washed up from lunch we walked the Marginal way to the beach again. But this time we did not make it to the real beach, we stopped in a little inlet area where people were swimming. We decided we would venture down and see if we could find a spot.

Here I am, though you can't see me. I have my toes in the water.
This day was really warm, so we talked ourselves into actually trying to swim swim, not just jump in and out. And since it was sunny and hot, why not.

We waded out to waist deep (slowly). Then we stayed there awhile (fifteen minutes?). We chatted a bit and gathered courage to take a real swim. By then I said, "this is so weird, my thighs feel hot." David then encouraged me by telling me that was one of the first signs of hypothermia!

I said I had to get moving, so we swam. A real swim. Not long, but under the water, real swimming. We swam some lengths out, and then slowly back in.Yes, it was freezing, but also refreshing, we felt like we really participated in the Maine beach experience, for whatever that is worth.

These rocks were so warmed by the sun that we both sat on them for a while to warm up

this is actually warmer than usual. It is usually mid-50's or so.

and of course we walked the Marginal Way back.

I love this view of walking right off the path into blue waters...

When we returned we talked with our hosts for a while and then went canoeing. This time we ventured even further out and loved every minute of it. We had a snack of ice cream in the perkin's cove area and shopped a bit before driving into town for a late dinner at a pizzeria.
And we had to have one last walk over the foot bridge for some Raspberry Sorbet as the sun set.
Beautiful area, beautiful days, Awesome God.

***The above incredible vacation was made possible by the Smith family and their generosity in a place to stay. And of course top awards go to Poppy, CC, and Laura who watched the girls for us while we were away, they stayed busy (and tired), but they too had a great time. Last but not least: David, who encouraged the whole thing and, I was truly able to relax and enjoy all God had for us during our time.
